Overview

The Chaparrí Private Conservation Area

 

Is a protected area in Peru. It is located in the Lambayeque and Cajamarca region.

It was created on December 19, 2001 by R.M. No. 1324-2001-AG. It has an area of 34,412 h located in the Lambayeque and Cajamarca region, the first private conservation area in Peru. It occupies a part of the Chancay river basin. The area belongs to the Santa Catalina de Chongoyape community.

The area protects dry forests. It is located in the equatorial dry forest ecoregion. The vegetation is carob and dry forest, in addition to cacti and thickets. It houses endemic or endangered animals such as Penelope albipennis, Leptotila ochraceiventris, Aratinga erythrogenys, Forpus coelestis, Caprimulgus anthonyi, Picumnus sclateri, Tumbezia salvini and Phytotoma raimondii. They also inhabit about 140 species of birds.

The protected area is frequently threatened by fires and invasions.

We head towards Chongoyape, from here we will continue along an unpaved road to this ecological dry forest conservation reserve. We will pass through impressive places, enjoying the scenery. Later, we will arrive at the Enchanted Garden in the Chaparri Private Conservation Area.

You also visit the rescue center for the bears of glasses. Here we will meet one of its permanent residents, "Cuto", a bear that was rescued from a circus, and is now cared for by park rangers in a natural environment. In this center they rehabilitate the bears that have been rescued from illegal captivity, here they learn again to fend for themselves, until they can be released to their habitat. We continue the visit to the Route of the Huachuma, here we learn about the sessions of shamanism, its meaning and respect for the Apus (mountain spirits), we continue and visit the repository and we will meet different snakes of the area, amphibians, their form of life and its characteristics. Finally we visit the Interpretation Center, which in detail explains the biodiversity of the area, how to protect it and the value of this wonderful ecosystem in the dry forest. After our visit to this northern paradise, we take a detour and arrive at the Tinajones Reservoir, which feeds Lambayeque water. In addition to enjoying the landscape, we can also observe birds such as eagles, herons among others. We return to Chiclayo. Arrival to Chiclayo.
