PALCCOYO MOUNTAIN
CUSCO FULL DAY
Did you know that there is another natural landscape with the same colorful appeal, which is easier to reach?
We speak of the “Rainbow Mountain Range of Palccoyo”, a destination that has gained fame due to the coloration in the sediments of this part of the Andes, as well as the Vinicunca, but with better accessibility, which allows you to enjoy spectacular views.
While the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain boils with thousands of tourists every day, just 20 kilometers south is not one, but three mountains of colors resting in complete solitude, of ocher and red colors, with green, blue and white stripes, the Dazzling Palccoyo Mountain Range is visited by a few travelers a day.
The place, still little known and far from many tourists, is located in the Palccoyo community of the Czechcupe district, at 4,900 meters above sea level. To get there they take about three to four hours of travel to the southeast and from the city of Cusco.
Reaching it only requires a smooth walk of 1 hour and without unevenness, transforming it into a less demanding alternative than the long trekking towards Vinicunca.
- When there is rain in Cusco it often means snow in the mountains. Obviously this is not what most travelers seek to experience since the walk can be more difficult, it is colder and even dangerous.
That is why there are several days in the rainy season in which it is not possible to visit the rainbow mountains.
Difficulty: Easy – Moderate
LOCATION: It is located in the Center-South of the country, in the Andean.
