Parón Lagoon
It is located 32 km from the city of Caraz, capital of the Province of Huaylas, at 4,200 meters above sea level, with a maximum of 73 meters from the water mirror to the bottom. Its water content is estimated at 55 million cubic meters, hence it is also used as a water reservoir to supply the Cañón del Pato hydroelectric plant, one of Peru’s main power generators.
Parón is the largest lagoon in the Cordillera and from there, on a clear sky day, you can see the peak of the snow-covered Artesonraju, the snow-capped Pyramid, Huandoy Norte, Pisco, Chacraraju and Paria.
